Life’s about change, nothing ever stays the same

Wednesday, August 10, 2011 was the first day of school for my girls.
Sarah Jane is now a Freshman in High School. (left)
Emily is a Junior in High School. (right)
First day of school 2011
This is the first year Emily was able to drive them on the first day of school. At first I was heartbroken that I was going to miss the yearly milestone of driving them to school and taking pictures as the walked into the school and in their new classrooms. Then as the day drew closer I realized this was exactly what we want for our daughters. To grow, progress and change. As a result, we must grow, progress and change with them. It became a new scrapbook layout in my head. And it is nice to have peace with this new normal.
Having the children grow up is not always easy on the Momma, but, this is how it is supposed to be. Life changes, we must change with it.

And just for fun, First day of school 2001.
Ten years ago.  I have this exact picture for every first day of elementary.

Again Sarah Jane on left, first day of K-4.
Emily on right, first day of 1st grade.

  1. How precious!! LOVE IT! My oldest is 15 and is very much looking forward to driving next year. We homeschool so she and her sister talk about going to the park to walk for P.E. or going to Sonic for drinks as part of a "business" class... I guess I can give them credit for that! It is hard as they grow. For me it happened a couple of years ago. We would always go to Barnes and Noble and read Halloween books together. For the first time, a couple of years ago, they didn't want to read kiddie books. It was sad for me... but on the up side they still wanted to spend time with me at the bookstore. I guess we just have to accept the change with them.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  2. Stopping by & following from Kelly's Korner, I LOVE this post. Especially the photo from 2001. I have two girls, too. Mine are 9 and 11, so I am not quite where you are ... but we are getting closer all the time.
